Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to Softbound, the Android ebook reader published by Apps Made Well under the application identifier com.appsmadewell.softbound. Apps Made Well is the developer responsible for Softbound and its privacy practices.

Softbound is designed for readers aged 13 and older. It does not require or offer an account.

Softbound stores imported EPUB books, cover images, book details, reading states, shelves, ratings, reading positions, appearance settings, highlights, notes, search indexes, dictionary results, and reading statistics locally on the reader's device. This data is used to provide the library and reading features the reader requests.

App-managed books and reading data are kept in Softbound's local app storage and are not sent to an Apps Made Well server. Files a reader chooses through Android remain subject to the storage access and protections provided by Android and the device.

When a reader requests a metadata or cover search, Softbound sends an entered or existing title, author, or ISBN to Open Library. Cover previews and downloads request the selected Open Library cover URL or identifier. When a reader requests a dictionary definition, Softbound sends the selected word and publication language to dictionaryapi.dev.

These requests are used only to return the requested metadata, cover, or definition. The services also receive ordinary network information, such as the IP address, user agent, and request time. Their operators may process or retain request information under their own practices. Apps Made Well does not operate these services and does not receive their server logs.

Softbound has no account system, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting SDK, cloud library, cloud sync, payment processing, or Apps Made Well backend. It does not collect a reader's name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, advertising identifier, health data, or payment data. It does not use Google Books in its first release, and Apps Made Well does not sell reader data.

Google may process visits to Softbound's store listing, app delivery, and related service information under Google's own terms and privacy policies. Apps Made Well does not control Google Play's independent data handling.

Requests to Open Library and dictionaryapi.dev use HTTPS to encrypt information in transit. Softbound relies on Android's application storage and device security protections for data kept locally.

No method of storage or transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure. Readers should keep their device and Android security updates current and retain their own copies of important EPUB files.

Local books and reading data remain on the device until the reader removes them, clears Softbound's storage in Android settings, or uninstalls the app. Softbound has no online account or Apps Made Well backend record that requires a separate deletion request.

Android backup and device transfer are disabled for Softbound. Books and reading data are not backed up or transferred automatically, so uninstalling Softbound or losing the device can remove them. Retention of information received by external lookup services is controlled by those services rather than Apps Made Well.

Apps Made Well may update this policy when Softbound's features or data practices change. The revision date on this page identifies the current version.
